Green & Parry take a bow for Everyman Theatre’s ‘restoration drama

When top London architects Foster Wilson were awarded the £3m Everyman Theatre  refurbishment contract, they called in Gloucester decorators Green & Parry.

Decorating Everyman Theatre

The company, run by Martin Green and Richard Parry, is now working to deadline to completely redecorate the famous Victorian Theatre inside and out to be ready for a grand reopening later this month.

“This is a very prestigious job,” said MD Martin Green. “We will probably never see anything like this again. The Everyman is a landmark theatre designed by the famous Victorian theatre architect Frank Matcham who also designed the London Palladium among others.

“Everything is absolutely top specification. We are using genuine gold paint, which costs £100 a tin, to do the highlights. The wallpaper is hand painted and cost more than £100 a roll and we’re using 70 rolls.

“This paper mates up with a fibre lining paper which creates a base and helps hold the wall surface together. We are also recommending using a special varnish to seal the wallpaper, otherwise it might smudge. “The design is stunning and will put it back to what it was like when built in 1891 as near as possible. “We have been sub contracted by the builders Speller Metcalfe of Brockworth who were given the job by architects Foster Wilson of London, who specialize in this sort of work.

“We have worked with Speller Metcalfe before so they know the high quality of the work we do.”

“Other prestige jobs we’ve done recently, include Southrop Lodge near Cirencester, former rectory and once the home of John Keble, eminent churchman and poet who gave his name to Keble College Oxford. Kate Moss lives practically next door now.

“We also did decoration work for international tycoon and famous yachtsman Peter de Savary at his multimillion pound Cotswolds mansion, at Withington.”

Martin 44 and Richard 38 have worked together for many years, bringing a wealth of experience to bear ontheir work.

Both men went through the time-honoured process of training at Gloscat and serving an apprenticeship, honing their skills over years of practical experience in the trade.

Today they employ a seasoned staff of 15, hand-picked for their workmanship, honesty and loyalty, working mainly in Gloucestershire but travelling when the need areas.
