About
What does “traditional decorating” mean? For us, it’s an unwavering commitment to quality workmanship, coupled with respect for our customers’ homes and their design aesthetic. Modern decorating, as seen in so many new-builds, seems to mean “two coats of grey”. But decorating is a true craft – a highly respected profession – that gives you the opportunity to bring your interior décor objectives to life and create amazing spaces you’ll love living in.
During the past decade, Martin Green Traditional Decorating has established a reputation for highly skilled professional decorating services throughout the south of England, from Cheltenham, Gloucester and the Cotswolds to Oxford and London.
High standards and quality workmanship are the heart of our business – and because we’re a family-run company, we’re also approachable, friendly and always highly professional.
Our family ethos doesn’t just extend to the trust and value we place in our employees. It means we listen to our customers with the same respect we have for our family, making sure each job we do is expertly completed, prioritising the quality of our work over costs and profit. As such, we’ve earned a glowing reputation throughout the Cotswolds and surrounding areas for skilled, reliable work.
The company is a family in more ways than one: since Martin Green established the business in 2013, his wife, son, daughter and son-in-law have joined the team. The business has grown year-on-year for the past five years and now employs more than 20 highly skilled decorators.
Martin Green
Martin learned his trade working for a Bristol firm of decorators, Ian Williams & Co. During which time he won the Paintability National Painting and Decorating Award as well as many other prizes recognising the high quality of his work. Martin spent the next few years as a sub-contractor for a range of decorating companies, before putting down roots in Gloucestershire, where his career blossomed, taking him from decorator to foreman painter and finally into the office as a contract manager/surveyor.
He took a step back from the day to day running of the business in 2023 to enjoy a semi retired lifestyle.
Steve Fitt
Steve began his career with an apprenticeship at a local painting and decorating company, but swiftly moved into quantity surveying for a national contractor, eventually managing a massive national refurbishment contract for Premier Inn, which involved the delivery of thousands of upgraded hotel rooms. Steve is Martin’s son-in-law, and in 2020 the lure of the family business became too great and he joined Martin in the day-to-day running of the company. In 2023, Steve and his wife Gemma (Martin’s daughter) took over the day to day running of the company.
